Maíz

Tori Gomez

My art work here, titled "Maíz", is a woodcut print of corn with Morse code overlapping the inverse shading that spells out M-A-I-Z. The short essay here is a nonfiction piece detailing my memories of a specific object in relation to family, (growing) pains, and nostalgia. Both are undoubtedly pieced together with glue from my culture and background as a Mexican that grew up in Southern California.
